Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about compressing videos privately in your browser.

Can I compress multiple videos at once?

Yes — that's what Compresso is built for. Drop in as many videos as you want and they'll be compressed one after another in a queue. You can watch the progress of each one in real time.

Are my videos uploaded to a server?

Never. Compresso runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly (a port of FFmpeg). Your videos are processed locally, on your device, and never touch our servers. Even if our servers went down right now, your compression would still work — that's how local it is.

How much can I shrink a video?

Up to 90%, depending on the source. A 4K phone video at 100 MB can typically come down to 10–15 MB while still looking great. You can fine-tune the trade-off between quality and file size in the Settings panel — pick a target bitrate, target file size, target quality percentage, or a CRF value for fine control.

What video formats are supported?

Compresso accepts MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV, and most other common video formats. Output is delivered as MP4, with your choice of H.264 (maximum compatibility) or H.265 (smaller files for the same quality).

Is there a free option?

Yes. You can compress as many videos as you want and preview them in your browser for free, plus your first download is on us. For unlimited downloads it's $2.99/month — cancel anytime.

Is there a file size limit?

Because everything runs in your browser, the practical limit is your device's available memory. Most laptops handle videos up to about 1 GB without trouble. For files larger than that, a desktop tool is usually a better fit.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern desktop browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Arc — released in the last few years. Mobile works too but compressing large videos on a phone can be slow.
